
As the year draws to a close, a series of major exhibitions are taking place. The Louvre Museum's first major exhibition in Shanghai, "The Miracle of Patterns: Masterpieces of Indian, Iranian and Ottoman Art from the Louvre," opened on December 13 at the Shanghai Pudong Art Museum, showcasing 300 works that demonstrate the fusion and mutual learning between cultures.
The Guangdong Provincial Museum's New Year's special exhibition, "Treasures of the Kuwaiti Royal Family," brings together over 200 top-tier artifacts from the Sabah Royal Family's collection. The Shenyang Palace Museum's "A Shared Glory: 400 Years of Shenyang Palace" exhibition will display over 100 precious cultural relics, including gold, jade, and enamelware. Additionally , the Jiangxi Provincial Museum's "Elegant Gathering in the Valley: A Special Exhibition Commemorating the 980th Anniversary of Huang Tingjian's Birth" is also highly anticipated, featuring 14 sets of first-class cultural relics, including the "Introduction Scroll of the Cursive Script of Huanhua Creek."

The Miracle of Patterns: Masterpieces of Indian, Iranian, and Ottoman Art in the Louvre

Featuring approximately 300 treasures from the Louvre's collection, this is the Louvre's largest exhibition in China. The exhibits demonstrate the absorption and reorganization of cross-cultural art.
Different Interests, Shared Brilliance: An Exhibition of Exquisite Export Art from the Qing Dynasty

Using objects as a medium, the exhibition brings together 119 sets of Qing Dynasty export art treasures from the Guangdong Provincial Museum, covering nine categories including Cantonese embroidery, Cantonese porcelain, Cantonese carving, Cantonese enamel, export paintings, export silverware, lacquerware, export fans, and name card cases, reproducing the cultural collision and integration in Sino-Western trade exchanges from the 18th to the 19th centuries.

Collecting Ancient Treasures and Inheriting Beauty: An Exhibition of Classical Documents from the Pan Family of Suzhou in the Collection of Shanghai Library

From the Qing Dynasty to modern times, the Pan family of Suzhou has been hailed as the "Distinguished Family of Wu." The exhibition brings together more than 150 pieces/sets of the Pan family's collection of classic books, writings, and social documents from various dynasties, all of which are rare books from the Shanghai Library's collection. Among them, the Song Dynasty editions of "Dongguan Yulun" and "Du Gongbu Ji" from Pan Zuyin's Pangxizhai collection, as well as Song Dynasty rubbings of "Xu Zhenren Jingming" and "Chalu", are all on display.
A Sweeping Array of Brushstrokes: A Documentary Exhibition Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of Shu Tong's Birth

Shu Tong (1905-1998) was a renowned revolutionary and a household name in calligraphy, whose style is known as "Shu Style." On the 120th anniversary of Shu Tong's birth, the organizers combined documentary exhibitions with academic exchanges to explore Shu Tong's artistic achievements and the spirit of the times that permeated his life through calligraphy, including his relationship with Shanghai.
Rome, Rome: From Olympia to Capitoline

The exhibition focuses on the evolution of ancient Roman civilization, and through three thematic units, "Legends of the Gods," "Glory of the Empire," and "Feast of Life," it presents a panoramic view of the epic history of ancient Rome from its mythological origins to the rise and fall of the empire. The vast majority of the 131 precious artifacts are being exhibited in Shanghai for the first time.
Waiting for the Performance – Chinese Opera Themed Art Exhibition

Within the tradition of Chinese figure painting, opera figure painting is a unique genre, an organic combination of opera art and traditional Chinese ink painting, possessing a fusion of the beauty of "opera" and "painting." The exhibition features opera figure paintings by Zhu Qizhan, Guan Liang, Han Yu, Gao Made, Ding Liren, Xie Chunyan, Han Shuo, Zhu Gang, Chen Jiu, Ji Ping, Yu Qiping, Gu Cunyan, Bai Ying, and Xu Xufeng.
Evidence of the Dian Kingdom: A Special Exhibition on the Ancient Dian Civilization of Yunnan

The exhibition systematically showcases the fruitful results of 70 years of archaeological research on Dian culture through more than 200 artifacts. As the third exhibition in the "Diverse Unity" series of Chinese Civilization exhibitions at the China Ocean Museum, it is also the first time that Shanghai has systematically presented the archaeological discoveries of the ancient Dian Kingdom.
The 15th Shanghai Biennale: "Can the Flowers Hear the Bees?"

The exhibition will present over 250 works by 67 artists/groups from China and around the world. Founded in 1996, the Shanghai Biennale is the first international contemporary art biennale in mainland China and one of Asia's most influential contemporary art events. This year's biennale, themed "Can the Flowers Hear the Bees?", focuses on both human and non-human intelligence, exploring the convergence of different modes of intelligence.

Among them are Li Xiongcai's 11-meter-long masterpiece "Welcoming Pine" and Guan Shanyue's representative work "Green Great Wall".
The 13th Shanghai Art Exhibition

This year's exhibition features 601 works, including selected pieces, works by invited artists, and pieces by the general jury, making it the largest exhibition to date. The exhibition will present works by a number of textbook figures in the history of modern art, including Marcel Duchamp, John Cage, and George Brecht. Through 11 sections, the exhibition showcases over 200 pieces from the Centre Pompidou's collection, tracing the development of Fluxus and extending to contemporary reflections on issues such as the boundaries of art.
Rodin: The Pioneer of Modern Sculpture

Walking – An Exhibition of Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting by Feng Dazhong and Guo Xingwen in Shanghai

Marquis of Haihun: A figure who lived through the lives of emperors, kings, and commoners, his tomb holds the secrets of the Han Dynasty.

The exhibition will showcase 108 artifacts/sets that have traveled from Nanchang. Among them, the most eye-catching are a large number of gold artifacts, including horseshoe-shaped gold ingots, hoof-shaped gold ingots, and gold cakes recording the "Zhoujin system," which help to understand the ritual system and economic conditions of the Han Dynasty.
Golden Threads: Ancient Gold Artifacts from the Collection of the Hong Kong Palace Museum

It brings together more than 170 precious ancient gold artifacts, fully showcasing China's gold craftsmanship achievements over three thousand years.
Past and Future: A Special Exhibition of Cultural Relics and Suspended Sculpture Art from Xiaoxitian

The core of the exhibition is to use millimeter-level digital scanning and VR technology to "reproduce" and reproduce the world-famous full-hall suspended sculpture art in the Mahavira Hall of Xiaoxitian in Xixian County at a 1:1 scale in an exhibition hall of more than 1,600 square meters.
"A Century of Protection: From the Forbidden City to the Palace Museum" Special Exhibition

The exhibition features 200 pieces (sets) of cultural relics. Reflections on the Banks of the Neva River – A Special Exhibition of Repin's Art

The exhibition will systematically present the artistic career of the painting master Ilya Repin through 92 oil paintings and drawings, using his artistic journey as a thread to open an artistic dialogue across time and space for the audience. This exhibition brings together treasures from two major Russian art institutions, presenting a comprehensive overview of Repin's art.
Who sends a letter from the clouds? — The Artistic World in Floral Stationery

Among the exhibited items are the "Ten Bamboo Studio Paper Collection" printed in the seventeenth year of the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty, as well as the "Plum Blossom Jade Plate Paper" and "Pink Imitation Ming Ren Dian Gold Ruyi Cloud Pattern Powder Wax Paper" from the Qing Palace collection. In addition, there is the "Beiping Paper Collection" co-edited by Lu Xun and Zheng Zhenduo, as well as the original manuscripts of paper paintings drawn by painters such as Qi Baishi and Zhang Daqian.

"Forging Rivers and Mountains: Weapons of the Chinese Bronze Age" Special Exhibition

The exhibition begins with weapons from the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, bringing together nearly 200 sets of precious cultural relics from eight museums and cultural institutions across the country. A pop-up shop themed "Wu Sword Casting Workshop" is also open concurrently, where visitors can even have a "sword caster" create a custom sword for them.

Jiangkou Sunken Treasure – A Lost Treasure from the Late Ming Dynasty

The "Xi Wang Shang Gong" gold coin, hailed as one of the "Fifty Famous Treasures" of ancient coins, will lead the exhibition. Its rarity makes it an important piece of evidence highlighting Zhang Xianzhong's military merit system. Also on display are various gold and silver jewelry pieces, exquisitely crafted and vividly designed, reflecting the enduring spirit of life amidst the chaos of the late Ming Dynasty.
Monet's Poetry: A Dialogue Between East and West Aesthetics from Chicago to the Estuary of the Three Rivers

Monet's "Water Lilies" and "Water Lily Pond" have arrived in Ningbo, along with a self-portrait of Monet at age 82. Eastern and Western art are presented in a dialogue-like manner. Visitors can also see various treasures from the Art Institute of Chicago, including those by Monet.
The Splendor of the Forbidden City: A New Year's Exhibition of Qing Dynasty Palace Relics in Ningbo

From Jiangnan to Lingnan: A Joint Exhibition of Liangzhu Culture and Shixia Culture

The Liangzhu Culture dates back approximately 5300-4300 years and was mainly distributed in the Taihu Lake region of the lower Yangtze River; the Shixia Culture dates back approximately 5000-4000 years and was widely distributed in northern Guangdong. A total of 156 artifacts (sets) from the Liangzhu and Shixia Cultures are on display, comprehensively presenting the unique features of the two cultures.
Dialogue with Pompeii: An Exhibition of Pompeian Artifacts from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy

The exhibition brings together precious collections from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, using various artifacts such as frescoes, sculptures, glassware, pottery, and metalwork to recreate the historical appearance and artistic achievements of Pompeii from multiple perspectives.

Valley Gathering – A Special Exhibition Commemorating the 980th Anniversary of Huang Tingjian's Birth

The exhibition, which collaborates with 15 cultural and museum institutions, displays a total of 85 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, including paintings, calligraphy, ancient books, stone inscriptions, and rubbings. Among them are 14 sets of first-class cultural relics. It is the exhibition with the most Huang Tingjian's calligraphy and the most complete range of calligraphic styles in mainland China.
Exquisite Craftsmanship in a Small Space: A Showcase of Fine Artifacts in Carving

Through the centuries-long inheritance of craftsmen, carving has transcended the boundaries of mere "craftsmanship," becoming a unique language for recording the changes of the times and conveying humanistic ideas. This exhibition features over 120 small-scale carvings made from various materials such as bamboo, wood, lacquer, porcelain, jade, and stone, offering different perspectives on traditional carving art.

Beibai – A Special Exhibition on White Porcelain and Ethnic Integration

It brings together more than 200 precious white porcelain pieces from 14 cultural and museum institutions across the country. It tells the story of the more than 900-year life of white porcelain, from its initial firing in the Northern Dynasties to its lingering charm in the Yuan Dynasty, and presents the fusion of technology, aesthetics and culture among various ethnic groups through white porcelain.
Yingxian Wooden Pagoda – A Miracle and Echo of a Thousand-Year-Old Wooden Structure

Based on more than 130 high-definition images obtained from professional surveys in recent years, the architectural remains, religious art, and cultural relics of Yingxian Wooden Pagoda have been systematically sorted out.

A Small Space, A History of Chinese Ancient Seals: An Exhibition

The Journey of Confucius to Spread the Way: Confucius's Travels Through the States

The exhibits include not only artifacts from the Eastern Zhou period from the collection of the Henan Museum, but also precious sacrificial vessels such as the "Ten Offerings of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties" from the Confucius Museum.
Special Exhibition: Bronze Gourd Pot Unearthed from the Tomb of Zhao Qing in Shanxi Province – A Masterpiece of Natural Beauty

In 1988, the well-preserved tomb of Zhao Qing, a high-ranking noble from the State of Jin during the Spring and Autumn Period, was discovered in Jinsheng Village, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It is the highest-ranking, largest-scale, most richly endowed, and most complete tomb of a high-ranking noble from the State of Jin discovered to date. The bronze gourd-shaped vessel on display was unearthed from the Zhao Qing Tomb.

Kuwait Royal Collection

Tingyun Art Lineage – Wen Zhengming Family Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition

This is the first large-scale exhibition in the Lingnan region to systematically present the artistic achievements of the Wen family, bringing together 69 sets of collections from three museums in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces.

Riding a crane down to Yangzhou, where flowers bloom in Chengdu: A Tale of Two Cities during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period

The exhibition centers on the "Tale of Two Cities" of Yangzhou and Chengdu during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It brings together 130 artifacts, comprehensively showcasing the historical landscape of Yangzhou and Chengdu during this era. Among the exhibits are engraved gold Buddha statues, human-shaped silver coffin ornaments, and crane-shaped silver coffin ornaments from Yangzhou, as well as wooden figurines unearthed from the tomb of Princess Xunyang, all of which are being publicly displayed together in Chengdu for the first time.

The Yangtze River Flows Through the Ages: Treasures of Ancient Civilization in the Yangtze River Basin

The exhibition brings together 160 artifacts from 37 cultural and museum institutions, connecting the history of civilization development, craftsmanship characteristics, and artistic achievements of the Yangtze River basin from the Neolithic Age to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, showcasing the important position of ancient Yangtze River civilization in the development of Chinese civilization.
Yishui Hanguang Yixian Dabeicheng Song-Liao Gold and Silverware Hoard Exhibition

Focusing on the Song and Liao dynasty gold and silver hoard unearthed in Dabeicheng, Yi County, the exhibition presents more than 400 pieces (sets) of cultural relics. The exhibition systematically traces the artistic lineage of Qingzhou-style Buddhist statues through four sections. These statues not only integrate the "wet robe" style of Indian Gupta art and the "long robes and wide belts" of the Southern Dynasties gentry, but also developed a unique oriental charm, ultimately reaching the artistic peak during the Northern Qi period.
Golden Light and Shadow: Art of Gilt Bronze Buddhist Statues from Various Dynasties in the Collection of the Museum

"A Hundred Years of the Jiazi Cycle" Special Exhibition

The exhibition covers a wide range of categories, including calligraphy, painting, artifacts, rare ancient books, and archival documents, presenting a total of 153 pieces/sets of cultural relics. Five national treasure-level calligraphy and painting masterpieces are on display for a limited time: Wang Xizhi's "Three Letters on Peace and Prosperity with Oranges" from the Jin Dynasty, Su Dongpo's "Cold Food Festival Poem" from the Northern Song Dynasty, Huang Gongwang's "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" (Wuyong Master Scroll) from the Yuan Dynasty, Huang Jucai's "Mountain Partridge and Thorn Sparrow" from the Song Dynasty, and Wu Yuanzhi's "Red Cliff" from the Jin Dynasty.

Ancient Egyptian Civilization Exhibition: Treasures from the Egyptian Museum

This exhibition brings together 250 artifacts from seven museums in Egypt, dating from approximately 7,300 to 2,000 years ago. The exhibits include statues of pharaohs and gods, reliefs, stelae, gold ornaments, jewelry, daily necessities, large sets of mummy coffins, and animal mummies.
